We have some brand new news for the AirPods Max 2, and you heard me right there—brand new news, as you can see right here. Today we have the latest summary of everything we know so far, including all the specs we’ve been told about and the latest info about the AirPods Max 2 release date and price. So the first-generation AirPods Max are over three years old now.
They were first introduced right at the end of 2020 as the last Apple product that came out that year. There was no special event or anything; we just had a normal sort of Apple press release about what happened on their website. And this is how we got the brand new AirPods Max. The AirPods Max essentially have most of the same features as the first-generation AirPods Pro, but the main difference is that the AirPods Max are overhead earphones compared to buds designs like we’ve got with the AirPods and also the AirPods Pro models. So moving on, I’ve decided that for all the new AirPods Max 2 videos like this one that you’re watching going forward, I’m going to give you all the latest on specific leaks, and then I’m also going to tell you all the details about the plan release date, and then I’m also going to give you a summary of the plan, and then after this, I’m also going to talk about what I would love to see in the new AirPods Max 2. So let’s begin, and let’s start with this AirPods Max 2 report. It’s 2024 release time, and as you can see right here, he has confirmed that along with the AirPods 4, we’re still expecting to see the AirPods Max with USB-C coming out this year. It has already been mentioned that the new AirPods Max will not be getting any kind of brand new design or anything like that, but what we have heard is that we’re going to be getting some more colors added this time around and some new colors too, and at the same time, the current cost of 550 US dollars, which is very high for a pair of overhead earphones, will be reduced in price.
To put this into perspective for you, you could actually buy almost five pairs of the second-generation AirPods for the same price from Apple right now, or say two pairs of the AirPods Pros for about $50. So, as you can see, that is a lot of money. So if Mark is right here, then I’m hoping that we’re going to probably see at least a $100 reduction or even a $150 reduction. I think the AirPods Max should be worth more than say the AirPods Pro 2 that we have out right now, but it shouldn’t be like overdoubling the price of what they are right now. So with the release date, it is very easy just to say this: everything is targeting the end of 2024. We have had multiple sorts of leaks and also reports coming in from Mark Gurman, and you can see here that he’s saying the end of 2024, even Min-Chi Kuo as well, saying the end of 2024.
Because at the end of the day, like I said before, the last time we got updates to these was the end of 2020, and let’s be honest, apart from the AirPods Pro 2, all of the AirPods need a refresh right now with a USB-C port and also some updated chips like the H2 and also like Find Me abilities, and all of this kind of good stuff too needs to be added to the AirPods 4 and also the AirPods Max 2. But do remember, guys, as said in loads of my videos, just a quick note with leaks being early, and to be fair, any leaks leading up to the AirPods Max release date that I find and show to you guys, a lot of leaks from previous Apple products have come true, and some of them have actually also been misinterpreted sometimes. So, for example, the release date might have been a little bit out, but the point is that I only report to you guys exactly what I’ve shown. So I can only tell you that not every single leak or rumor is 100% true until we see the final product, like the AirPods Max shown officially from Apple. Previous leagues have painted a picture for us of the details and specs for the AirPods Max 2, as well as its price. So then for the AirPods Max 2, we’re going to be essentially getting the exact same design again, so do not expect any sort of brand new design. The last generation was the first to actually come out with this whole new design; in fact, they were the first AirPods Max. There’ll be nothing new there. But the audio technology will be getting improved active noise cancellation, very similar to what we got with the AirPods Pro, and at the same time we will also be getting all the usual bits and pieces like transparency mode, adaptive EQ, conversation boost, and also improved spatial audio. Mainly, all the main bits and features that you see in the AirPods Pro 2 will be coming over to the AirPods Max 2.
We will also be getting Ultra Wideband connectivity since this is the U1 chip, so this gives you the ability to use things like Apple Find Me and will probably also allow the actual sort of AirPods Max to make a noise when you want to find them if you do lose them. Also, we’ll be getting the improved Bluetooth 5.3 put inside them. Also, due to its release date, it’s now going to be in 2024 and beyond the springtime period. Then we will also be getting USB-C for the first time on any AirPods, and the AirPods Max 2 will be the first to get this, and the main reason is because the likes of the iPhone 15 are getting USB-C too. We will also be getting left and right ear recognition, so you can put on these AirPods in any sort of way. You can put them the wrong way around if you want, and it will recognize which ear you’ve actually put them on, so you don’t need to be concerned if you do have your AirPods the wrong way around. Also, for the first time, we’ll be getting IPX4 on these AirPods Max 2. So this is basically just a standard kind of waterproof from splashes or rain, for example, but if you did say you wanted to take them out into a swimming pool, I wouldn’t recommend putting them on because they’d probably get wrecked, but basically, if we’d stand a bit of rain and also the odd bit of splashes, you’d be absolutely fine. We’ll also be getting brand new colors, but we’ll also be getting traditional colors as well, so we’re getting space grey, silver, pink, green, blue, product red, and purple, and some of the renders here in this video have shown a bit of this. For battery life for the AirPods, we will also be getting eight hours of listening time, and with the wireless case, up to 24 hours too. So basically, we can put this on standby with these AirPods Max, and we’ll be getting that amount, and the price for the very first time will also be most likely reduced a bit, so they’re probably coming in around $449 US dollars for them. So then guys, that is the summary of the AirPods Max 2.
However, for my thoughts and wishes, well, my wish is actually to do with that price I just spoke about. Now I’ve mentioned this before, but the price of the AirPods Max is $550, which is basically around $50 of the price of an M1 iPad Air. What is totally crazy when you think about it, and considering what kind of tech you’re getting with an iPad Air, you know it’s worth the price for that, but compared to the AirPods Max, not really in my opinion. So with this, I do think the AirPods Max are currently a bit unfairly priced, and they should be at least about $100 to $150 less, and I’d love to see this happen with the Max 2. They’ll currently come down a bit in price, especially since you can pick up the AirPods Pro 2 for example for around $250, and you’re getting essentially brand new kit inside that and also newer abilities too, so I’d really do want to see this happen inside the new AirPods
