Okay, I had Rs. 60,000, and we wanted the best Windows laptop. It has an OLED display, can also game, must have a Type-C port, and is lightweight. I don’t want to carry this huge bag. And after lots of arguments and research, we finally got it. We got this Asus laptop for Rs. 60,000. On paper, this laptop seems to be the perfect all-rounder, like the Ravindra Jadeja of Windows laptops.
But is it, though? Like surely, there has to be some catch. Well, we have been using this laptop for a couple of weeks now, and we have some really interesting things to talk about. Very interesting ones. Most of it is Diane. I am at this time. Take the unboxing experience, for instance. You get this normal box and, of course, a laptop. Some paperwork, a proprietary charger, and a charging brick. This is normal; all laptops kind of have this at this price range. But here you also get a booklet with a lot of OLED-specific information.. Now this feels like a gaming laptop. And to keep things easy and simple for you guys, we’ll be mentioning the pros and cons. The first thing that I really liked about this laptop was its build and design. As you can see, laptops with dedicated graphics cards like this one over here are bulky; however, if I put the Asus VivoBook here, it looks sleek and modern. In fact, normal gaming laptops weigh around 2.2–2.5 kg, but this one right here weighs around 1.6–1.7 kg, and you will notice this every day. Like in my use case, I was traveling in the metro every day with a laptop in the back. I had no issue; it didn’t feel heavy or anything. And since this is technically part of the Asus VivoBook family, they all look the same. Like a premium-looking silver body, it has this metallic style of design on the top. Oh sh*t, I’m not going. At the bottom, you have the vents and the speakers. I’ll come to the audio in just a moment. And on the back side, this is the exhaust that releases hot air. And pro number 2 would be the display. So this is a 15.6-inch, 60-Hz, 1080p OLED display. And this is probably the biggest plus point of this laptop. Let me show you why that is.
See, this is another VivoBook, same price but with an LCD screen. And if I play the same video side by side, the OLED screen looks much more vibrant. The blacks look black, while the other one looks grayish. And you will notice this in your daily use case. Like this other day, I was watching Lapata Ladies on this laptop; the colors, brightness, and everything were on point. Everything looks so good. So watching videos, movies, or even playing games on the display is a treat. Which brings me to the gaming performance of the laptop. Now I play only casual games. So the day has come when we will hand it over to Sayan, our young and upcoming gamer in the house. Young at heart. Okay, so gaming on this laptop was an interesting thing. Let me show you three titles. First is my favorite racing game, Forza 5 at 1080p with a high preset. DLSS set to quality The benchmark gave around 70 fps, which is pretty nice. Even when playing the game, the gameplay was very smooth. Next up is cyberpunk again at 1080p. Everything is set to high, and DLSS is set to quality. The benchmark gave more than 30 frames per second for a story-driven game. This is fine. And finally, we have FC 24. Yes, but it’s called FC 24. You know what? Why don’t you come on in? Why don’t you So let’s play a match together. Come. Come. Come. What are you controlling? By the way, the game is running at 1080p. I don’t know how to control it. This is pass, shoot, two ball, and this is lob. Offside? Offside? Please. Please. So how was the performance? I think it was good. I could feel a bit of latency, but that could be because I don’t know the controls exactly. I think it’s because of the two players; when I was testing it out, it was flawless. Even I feel there is a bit of latency, but yeah, for the price, it’s absolutely fine. So yeah, the gaming performance on this laptop for the price is actually good. However, there are two things that I must mention.
First, the 3050 here is 4GB, and second, the max TDP here is 50 watts, which is on the lower end because 3050s on other laptops can go to around 70 to 80 watts. So I would recommend playing games in a medium-to-high setting and, of course, turning ray tracing off. Also, this is a 60Hz display, so no 144Hz, meaning competitive FPS will be okay. Other than gaming, in a normal use case, the laptop runs pretty well. This comes with a Ryzen 5 5600H CPU along with 16GB of DDR4 RAM and a 512GB SSD. We ran Cinebench R23’s test, and it scored about 6300 in multicore. For a laptop at this price, this is a decent number. Like for medium-to-heavy tasks like creating a thumbnail in Photoshop, which I was doing, there was no lag as such with multiple layers. Also, I did write a few video scripts for it. Obviously, that was also pretty slow. Speaking of writing documents, you get a full-size keyboard here with all the keys. Plus, you get the number pad. Also, this is a backlight key. The typing experience on the laptop was… nice. The same goes for the trackpad. It is smooth and supports all the gestures. If it were slightly bigger, it would have been good. Also, the power button doubles as a fingerprint scanner, so that’s a nice touch. Get it? Touch? Besides this, you get most of the necessary ports. Two USB-A ports on the left, one USB-A port on the right, HDMI, Type-C, micro SD card slot, headphone jack, and the only thing here is that this Type-C port does not support charging, which is a bummer because the other day I forgot to bring the charger and I practically couldn’t use the laptop. That being said, I would say the battery life on this is good; on a full charge, it was giving me easily 6 hours of work time, which for a laptop is not bad. However, you must consider that this is a brand new laptop, like only 2-3 weeks old, and since you do get a dedicated graphics card, the charging brick here is this big. Like, I never get this with a Windows laptop. I wish the size was better or smaller.
Which brings me to the things I wish were better. Like, starting off with the bane of most Windows laptops, the speaker. Like, let me demonstrate. So, I’ll put the laptop on the table here and play. The sound is below average. It is loud, but there is no bass. Now, here’s where things get even more interesting. See, I’ll move the laptop from the table to the sofa, and now I’ll play the same song. See, the volume goes down too. That’s because the speakers are placed at the bottom, and the entire audio output gets absorbed by the sofa. It gets all muffled. Point to notice: this is not specific to just this laptop. Most Windows laptops in this price range have the same issue. Also, one thing to add here is that we noticed a couple of days ago that the frame from here has started to come out. Maybe this could be with our unit; if it is with you, let us know in the comments below. But the build quality, at least for these parts, could have been better. Moving on to the webcam, So, it’s a nice thing that you get a physical shutter over here. That’s good for privacy. Also, this is a 720p webcam, so this is how the audio and video quality are. I would say it’s in the job tier now. To answer this question, is this the best all-rounder laptop that money can buy right now? Well, I would say yes, the keyword is all-rounder because, at 60,000, you have two options. You either get a productivity laptop with an i7 Ryzen 7 or a good OLED display.
